The EU showcases Pompeii heritage at a touring photographic exhibition in Australia

Cultural heritage preservation and cultural diplomacy have been part of the EU’s foreign policy goals for nearly two decades.

WHY IT MATTERS

In 2025 – 2027, the European Union presents a travelling exhibition across Australia called Inside Pompeii: Origins of a European Way of Life -Photographs by Luigi Spina. The exhibition highlights the everyday lives of Pompeii’s people, from intricate mosaics and personal graffiti to household objects and grand public spaces, find commonalities with a modern way of life.

WHAT’S DRIVING IT?

This initiative of the European Union Delegation to Australia as part of the EU’s foreign policy initiatives, highlighting the increased presence and engagement of the EU with partner countries.

LOOKING AHEAD

The 38-work exhibition is being displayed at venues in Hobart, Wannerroo, Melbourne, the Gold Coast, Adelaide and Canberra.

INTERESTING FACT

The European Union has invested €78 million (AUD$130 million) in the Great Pompeii Project, restoring 70 buildings, recovering 40 hectares of ruins, and establishing best practices in heritage management.
